In room 27 we have been really enjoying keeping up with the women and men’s Senior Irish football teams. We have been watching the highlights of the various matches that have been played. We explored the FAI match reports too to research more about the matches.

We then decided to write a match report on the men’s match against the Netherlands. We wrote it as a class but we are now researching the women’s match where they faced Northern Ireland and will be writing our own reports on this match. When they are completed we will post them here but until then why not have a look at our class report!

A Game of Penalties!

The first half kicked off at the Aviva Stadium to a large crowd of football fans. Fans in Dublin gathered for the 7:45pm kick off on Sunday 10th September 2023.

Ireland took an early lead when they won a penalty before the 5th minute mark. Idah placed the football on the spot and then sent it flying straight past the keeper and into the back of the net.

Before the 20th minute the Netherlands had equalized from their own penalty opportunity. Gakpo was the player that kept the Netherlands in the game.

In the second half, the Netherlands scored again making it 2-1. Weghorst became the goal scoring hero in the 55th minute.

And sadly, that was where the match ended. The score after the full time whistle was 2-1 to the Netherlands. It was a brilliant game from both sides but it wasn’t Ireland’s night. Hard luck Ireland.
