We love Roald Dahl in Room 20. We are really big fans of his books and the stories he tells. On the 13th September 2016 Roald Dahl would have been 100 years old and to celebrate we did a few Roald Dahl themed activities over the week of his birthday.
We wrote our own acrostic poems about Roald Dahl in English, we sketched the BFG in art, listened to the story ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ during lunch, did a web quest about his life during our laptop time and learned the song ‘Pure Imagination’ from the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. We used this song and a clip from the movie to inspire us to create our own sweets and chocolates that could have been made in Willy Wonka’s factory! We tried to keep the drool off our pages as we wrote the descriptions to go with our delicious creations!!
At the end of the week we wrote postcards to Roald Dahl to tell him about our week and all the things we did to celebrate him and his amazing work. As a treat, during Golden Time, teacher let us watch the original movie ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ and she told us that Roald Dahl actually helped to make this movie.
