St. Thomas’ Senior National School has been awarded Digital School of Distinction status. Our school received the prestigious Digital School of Distinction Award for embracing the use of Digital Technologies to enhance the teaching and learning of our pupils. One of the National Validators, Dr Daithí Ó Murchú, visited our school for a full day and was amazed by what he saw:
– Pupils completing tasks, projects, quizzes and assessments given by their teacher on Google Classroom
– Pupils presenting projects that they created using Google Slides on the Interactive Whiteboard
– Pupils coding using Scratch
– Pupils blogging on our school website about what they are learning in school
– Pupils using the internet and software to research and extend their learning
– Pupils using Nintendo DSs to improve their mathematical, strategy and problem solving skills
– Pupils using Reading Eggs to improve their literacy skills
– Pupils with special educational needs using Tablets to improve their literacy, numeracy and social skills
– Pupils with dyslexia using Nessy to assist their learning needs
– Pupils using Mathletics to improve their numeracy skills
– Pupils using the visualiser to assess their learning
– Pupils with special educational needs using Touch-Type, Read & Spell to help them with their reading and spelling
– Pupils playing interactive educational games to extend their learning
